Digital Game - Symbiosis

In this 2 player platform, work together as a frog or spider to cross the dangers of the jungle, reclaim the spider’s missing eggs, and reach the safe zone of each level!

My Contributions:

  • Ideate and design a platformer revolved around two characters working together

  • Design and implement enemies for the characters

  • Leverage an A* library for navigation and behavior trees for decision making

  • Unity (C#)

The Challenge:

As a group, we took heart to the unusual characters. We wanted to use characters that were non-humanoid. After research and discussion, we happened on the idea of symbiosis, where two animals or insects collaborate in non-typical ways. We found that spiders and frogs have these unique relationships where they defend each other. With non-humanoid characters, basic movement is different than most games, but we decided to user their abilities in real life, like the spider being able to climb walls, to our advantage. We needed to iterate quickly due to the timeline of the challenge, instead of designing unique enemies, we leveraged their natural predators for the types of enemies we had in the game.

Game Requirements:

The Process

  • 3 weeks to create the project from scratch with a group of 5

  • It must be a platformer with unusual characters, 3 mobile actors, and 3 environmental effects
