Digital Game - The Long Hallway

Play first-person as a patient in a mental health ward. Traverse the hallways, meeting fellow patients and  staff, and experience hallucinations. You find that the organization's medication and practices are ineffective. You must keep your sanity to maintain your facade and leave the ward.

My Contributions:

  • Design a game loop and mechanics to engage players with a game for impact

  • Implement game core systems like player movement, interactions with the environment, the core game loop, and sanity system

  • Implement data tracking to analyze player decisions

Tools Used:

  • Unity (C#)

The Challenge:

We wanted to create a game based off a short story with a deeper and emotional tone. We chose to base the game off of The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins. The challenge was to then turn a narrative piece into a game. We decided to change the setting and utilize the core decisions made in the story and leverage them to create our core loop.

Game Requirements:

The Process

  • 3 weeks to create the project from scratch with a group of 5

  • It must be a game with an artist statement or utilize meaningful play

  • Include data tracking
